About Rupi

Rupinder "Rupi" is a trained Indian classical singer who has done her post-graduate in vocal music. She has several performances to her credit all over India and abroad (USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Austria and Norway).

She is presently the National Vice Chairperson of SPIC MACAY (Society for promotion of Indian classical music and culture amongst youth) and Chairperson SPIC MACAY, Uttarakhand.

Through childrens' workshops and courses on Indian music and culture, Rupi has been reaching out to the of the Indian community abroad to help them rediscover and appreciate their roots. She is an artist of All-India Radio and has recorded two CDs of devotional music, the latest for HMV.

She has two daughters, Bani and Amrita and presently resides in Gurgaon after completing 18 years of service, as a classical music teacher at Welham Girls' School, Dehradun, India 

Training, Qualifications & Awards

  1. April 2015 - Awarded the "UTTRAKHAND RATAN" award for contribution to spreading culture in the State of Uttrakhand (SPIC MACAY).
  2. March 2015 - Was award the 'Uma Shakti Award' on International Womens' Day by the Chief Minister of Uttrakhand, Shri H S Rawat, for exemplary work in spreading Heritage Education in the State (through SPIC MACAY).
  3. January 2015 - Read a research paper on "Guru Nanaks' Message of peace , through Ragas " at an International Seminar in the Dept of History ,Vishwa Bharati University.
  4. November 2014- Read and published a research paper on 'A comparative study between Indian music and Gurmat Sangeet ' at the Mumbai University (Dept of History).
  5. August 2010 - Research paper on 'The Importance of Raga in the Guru Granth Sahib' was published in the book 'Concept of Divine Discipline in the Guru Granth Sahib' released by the Bombay University in August.
  6. 2008 - was given the 'Saraswat Samman 2008' for contribution to classical music in the state of Uttrakhand by Padmabhushan Pt. Rajan Mishra .
  7. 2006 - Participated in a national seminar on early teaching of classical music at Punjab University (Chandigarh).
  8. Awarded Kala Shri for contribution to classical music by Sanskar Bharti, a national level cultural organization.
  9. Post graduate in Vocal Music from Punjab University.
  10. Intensive training in the Guru Shishya tradition with the late Dr. S. Kalekar and internationally renowned vocalist Smt. Sulochna Brahaspati.
  11. Research assistant for the first Encyclopedia of Indian music, at Sangit Mahabharti (Mumbai).
  12. Member of the National Executive as well as the Chairperson of SPIC MACAY of the State of Uttarakhand.
