About Rupi
Rupinder "Rupi" is a trained Indian classical singer who has done her post-graduate in vocal music. She has several performances to her credit all over India and abroad (USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Austria and Norway).
She is presently the National Vice Chairperson of SPIC MACAY (Society for promotion of Indian classical music and culture amongst youth) and Chairperson SPIC MACAY, Uttarakhand.
Through childrens' workshops and courses on Indian music and culture, Rupi has been reaching out to the of the Indian community abroad to help them rediscover and appreciate their roots. She is an artist of All-India Radio and has recorded two CDs of devotional music, the latest for HMV.
She has two daughters, Bani and Amrita and presently resides in Gurgaon after completing 18 years of service, as a classical music teacher at Welham Girls' School, Dehradun, India
Training, Qualifications & Awards
- April 2015 - Awarded the "UTTRAKHAND RATAN" award for contribution to spreading culture in the State of Uttrakhand (SPIC MACAY).
- March 2015 - Was award the 'Uma Shakti Award' on International Womens' Day by the Chief Minister of Uttrakhand, Shri H S Rawat, for exemplary work in spreading Heritage Education in the State (through SPIC MACAY).
- January 2015 - Read a research paper on "Guru Nanaks' Message of peace , through Ragas " at an International Seminar in the Dept of History ,Vishwa Bharati University.
- November 2014- Read and published a research paper on 'A comparative study between Indian music and Gurmat Sangeet ' at the Mumbai University (Dept of History).
- August 2010 - Research paper on 'The Importance of Raga in the Guru Granth Sahib' was published in the book 'Concept of Divine Discipline in the Guru Granth Sahib' released by the Bombay University in August.
- 2008 - was given the 'Saraswat Samman 2008' for contribution to classical music in the state of Uttrakhand by Padmabhushan Pt. Rajan Mishra .
- 2006 - Participated in a national seminar on early teaching of classical music at Punjab University (Chandigarh).
- Awarded Kala Shri for contribution to classical music by Sanskar Bharti, a national level cultural organization.
- Post graduate in Vocal Music from Punjab University.
- Intensive training in the Guru Shishya tradition with the late Dr. S. Kalekar and internationally renowned vocalist Smt. Sulochna Brahaspati.
- Research assistant for the first Encyclopedia of Indian music, at Sangit Mahabharti (Mumbai).
- Member of the National Executive as well as the Chairperson of SPIC MACAY of the State of Uttarakhand.

Workshops and Performances
Rupi has been involved in many concerts, performances and other musical events. Here is a list of some of the highlights: |
- October 2017- Was invited to give the Keynote address at the MODY SCHOOL SOUTH ASIAN AND GULF REGION ROUND SQUARE MUSIC FEST 2017.
- July 2017 - Taught music at a week long summer camp in Washington DC (Guru Angad Institute of Sikh Studies). Performed at the 'Summer Concert' in Virgina, USA. (Click on link to view brochure).
- June 2017 - Was invited to teach classical Gurbani at a week long summer camp in Dallas, USA, by the Sikh Temple of North Texas. Performed Gurbani Kirtan at the Temple
- November 2016 - Established a music school in Gurgaon- 'Rupis' Raga School of Music' affiliated to Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Students are trained in classical music. They appear for grading
exams and perform regularly on Gurupurab, Janamashtmi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Pooja celebrations across the city.
- July 2016 – Conducted a week long music workshop for the Indian community in Shanghai, China. Gave two performances at the Sikh Temple, Shangha, China.
- March 2016 – Gave a public performance at the 'Gurgaon Artiste Fest', organised by the Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon.
- July 2015 - Taught Gurmat Sangeet to students at the Gurudwaras in Milford, Millis (Boston).
- July 2015 -Was invited by GAISS , Virginia, to teach classical Gurbani at a week long summer camp for children and adults.
- July 2015 - Gave a classical recital in Virginia (11th July) for a fund raising event.
- January 2015 - Was invited by the Vishwa Bharati University , Shantiniketan (W. Bengal) to perform at the inaugural of the Centre for Guru Nanak Studies.
- November 2014 - Was invited to perform at the Inaugural session of an International Conference on Spirituality at the Mumbai University.
- July 2014 -Was invited to perform classical music at an International cultural festival in Poland " Brave Festival ", Wroclow.
- July 2014 - Conducted a workshop on Indian Classical Ragas at the Brave Festival for Polish citizens.
- July 2013 - Gave two concerts at the "Brave Festival" ,Wroclow, Poland on Indian classical music (Gurbani).
- July 2013 - Conducted a workshop in Indian Classical music for Polish citizens at the Brave Festival, Wroclow, Poland
- October 2012 - Performed at the Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan.
- 2011 - July - Conducted a 10 Day Workshop of classical GURBANI at a summer camp at GURU ANGAD INST OF SIKH STUDIES, WASHINGTON DC, USA
- July 2010 - Gave a 2 hour lecture on Sikh music ( and its classical format ) at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Performed Classical Gurbani Kirtan at the Guru Nanak Niwas Gurudwara, Hamburg.
- Performed Gurbani Kirtan, at the Singh Sabha Gurudwara, Langenthal, Switzerland, followed by a teaching session
- June 2010 - Gave a classical recital at the University of Heidelberg ( Dept of South Asian Studies), Germany.
- Conducted a workshop on Indian Classical music with students from different parts of the world.
- March 2010 - Gave a Classical Gurbani recital at a Seminar, Punjabi University ( Dr Balbir Singh Study circle )
- June 2009 - Conducted a summer camp on Gurmat Sangeet, organised by the Central Sikh Gurudwara in Katong, Singapore.

- 2003 - Conducted a series of workshops on Indian classical music for children of the Indian community in Toronto, Canada and Los Angles, USA

- 2002 - Conducted a 2 day musical workshop for students of Hope Town School, Selaqui, India
- 2001 - Organized the musical activities at the National Conference for Mentally Handicapped People, held at the Doon School, Dehradun
- 1997 - Taught classical music and choir singing to students from all over the world at a 3 week international cultural camp called "The Indian Experience" at Welham Girls' School, Dehradun
- 1997 - Taught Gurmat Sangeet for 10 days at the Gurudwara in Alnabru, Norway
- 1997 - Lead a three week intensive workshop on Indian music for children of the Indian community in Oslo, Norway
Teaching Experience
- 1995 to 2013 - Music Teacher of Indian classical music at Welham Girls' School, Dehradun, instructing students at the ICSE level
- 1996 to 2002t - Voluntary music teacher at Miss Linnel Memorial School, a school for underprivaledged children
- 1994 to 2003 - Taught music at Latika Vihar, a creativity center and at Karuna Vihar, a school for mentally handicapped children in Dehradun
- 1985 to 1992 - Established an independant school of music in Mumbai and taught vocal and instrumental music, directed childrens' choirs and orchestras
